Firm Overview

Attorney Profile

Attorney Gary D. Sparks is a graduate of John F. Kennedy University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude at the top of his class. While in law school, he clerked for the Family Law court, and was certified by the State Bar of California to engage in the limited practice of law while still a student. He worked for several years as a student instructor and thereafter as a teaching assistant at the School of Law, and today continues to privately tutor and mentor law students in their studies and in preparation for the bar exam.

Prior to founding the firm in 2009, Gary was a partner at Holmes, Moore & Sparks, a well-known family law firm in Walnut Creek with a rich, 25+ year history of successful family law advocacy.

Gary has a reputation in the family law community for being firm, yet fair, in dealing with other parties and attorneys. His time clerking for the court has given him valuable insight and experience into the inner workings of our legal system, flawed as it may be. Gary enjoys legal research and analysis, and practices law from the perspective of a divorced father who learned the legal system firsthand during his own highly contested custody case.

Gary is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the Solano County Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Bay Area Regional Standing Committee of FLEXCOM (Family Law Executive Committee of the State Bar).

He is admitted to practice law in all state courts throughout California. Gary is also active in community service, supports public education and is a member of Acalanes Fellowship Lodge F&AM, and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Vaca Arts Council.

Personal Attention and Core Values

Gary has a successful record of protecting his clients' interests and helping them achieve their goals in both simple and extremely challenging cases. He understands that the legal process can be complex and intimidating at times, and is committed to building trust and confidence with each client in his or her case.

From the very first meeting, Gary will guide and provide you with compassionate and personal attention focused on your unique situation, and will help you to determine what is best for you and your family. At the same time, he will offer you an honest assessment of your legal position, including the pros and cons of asserting your position. Sometimes this means telling clients what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear. Gary considers this the ethical (and only) way to practice law.

Gary will do everything possible to settle your case amicably without the need for repeated court hearings or a trial, but will aggressively advocate for you when necessary or forced to appear in Court. Ultimately, the goal is to help you resolve your case with the best possible outcome.

Technology

Our firm leverages state-of-the-art computer technology to the fullest extent possible - while not forgetting the human touch - to simplify the process and to enhance your client experience. We manage our law practice and client cases electronically, and utilize sophisticated computer-based legal research tools.

We securely provide all legal documents in paperless form over the Internet and collaborate with clients using our safe online project management portal, while having multiple file and backup solutions in place to prevent you from being a casualty of system failures. We will also be implementing an online electronic payment gateway in the future to simplify the billing and payment process.

Respect for Client Finances

We understand that working with an attorney to resolve legal issues can often be quite expensive. We do everything possible to minimize costs to our clients, including the introduction of our new flat-rate (fixed-fee) pricing model.

We tailor our legal services to your needs and your budget. Whether you need comprehensive full representation, a limited scope court appearance, pretrial coaching, ghostwriting of legal pleadings, or simple document review, we will work with you to determine the best solution for your particular situation. For example, our online divorce coach service runs just $295/month.
